Part 3: How to Start Restoring Thyroid Function

This is Part 3 of a 3-part thyroid series.

How to Start Restoring Thyroid Function (Part 3)

Hello Wellness Seeker,

We covered a lot in the last two emails.

In Part 1, I shared concerns around thyroid medication, including observational research showing an association with higher rates of cancer.

In Part 2, we looked at why many people take thyroid medication and still do not feel better.

Now the question becomes:

What do you do about it?

My Approach to Thyroid Function

This is the work I do every day.  I do not start with guessing, and I do not start with supplements. I start by stepping back and looking at the full picture, because the thyroid is not a stand-alone system.

Step 1: Look at the Full System

We begin by reviewing your labs, your symptoms, and your health history.  From there, the focus shifts to how the systems in your body are actually functioning together.

The thyroid depends on the liver, the gut, stress levels, nutrient status, and overall cellular health. When one of these areas is not working well, the entire system feels it.

Step 2: Identify the Breakdown

This is where most people get stuck.

Medication is often given without identifying why the system is not working in the first place. The better question is not just what the numbers are, but why the body is not responding the way it should.

We want to understand why T4 is not converting to T3, why symptoms are still present, and where the breakdown is occurring.

Step 3: Support the Body Where It Needs It

Once the weak link is identified, we can begin to correct it in a targeted way.

This may include:

  • restoring key nutrients

  • supporting liver function

  • improving gut health

  • addressing chronic stress and the adrenal system

  • reducing inflammation

There is no one-size approach. The plan needs to match what your body actually needs, and we can determine this from the basic blood labs.

Step 4: Support the Basics

There are also simple things you can begin right away. These do not replace deeper work, but they support it.

A Shift in Thinking

Many people have been led to believe that taking a pill fixes the problem.  If the problem were truly fixed, the pill would not be needed long term.  Medication can have a place, and for some it is essential, but it does not correct the underlying breakdown in the system.

What This Means for You

If you are still dealing with fatigue, brain fog, weight changes, hair loss, insomnia, anxiety, depression or that general sense of not feeling like yourself, it is worth looking deeper.

The longer the underlying imbalance remains, the more strain it places on the entire system.

Your Next Step

This is where a different approach matters.

I do not look at thyroid numbers alone. I look at how the full system is functioning and where it needs support. When the weak link is identified, it can be corrected.

If you are ready to move forward, we will review your labs and symptoms, then build a plan tailored to you.

You do not have to keep guessing.
